Rebecca Blackwell (mezzo soprano) prides herself on being a modern-day Renaissance woman, though she is most at home singing Baroque and contemporary vocal works. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Rebecca grew up in music-rich environments and developed a love for the outdoors.
She completed a BM in vocal performance at New York University and went on to complete a master’s degree at the University of Minnesota studying under Adriana Zabala. Recent career highlights include performances with Oregon Bach Festival, Weimar Bach Academy, Minnesota Opera, Madison Choral Project, Borealis Chamber Artists, and University of Minnesota Opera Theater. Rebecca has worked as a teaching artist for several years, sharing opera with communities of all ages across the Twin Cities.
Rebecca is currently pursuing licensure as a mental health counselor and enjoys integrating self-expression and creativity with clients along their healing journey. She is also a certified yoga instructor and loves to find new avenues for connecting the mind, body, and spirit through community. When not studying or working on music, you can find Rebecca in Uptown Minneapolis enjoying the lakes and sunshine, exploring the rockin’ Twin Cities food scene, and adoring her two cats and wonderfully supportive partner.
Madison Choral Project is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit. All donations are tax-exempt.
